Hawkeye Defeats Cyclone

Almost overlooked this one. What the video doesn't show is that before Craig touched the victory tree, he took Matt out with a cross-body block and pinned him for a 10-count.

Weaselhawks Videographer Takes a Twirl

OMG, that shit below is hilarious! Thanks for the posts, Oona. While you were taking a break from video duties, I captured you and Jamie on my trusty Canon.

Can you blame us, really?

We were drinking Fat Cat and Hamm's and it was our last game of the season. What better way to spend the time and finish off the beer?

Weaselhawks Extinguish Cardinal

Holy crap, Batman. Talk about some major AASL excitement. After losing the game to Martin/Williams, the Weaselhawks took the usual 20 minutes of hanging around the field (and finishing off the Gluek's) to decide on a trip to The Cardinal for after-game culinary treats and refreshing beverages.

Just before settling up on the tab and departing, Weaselhawks Fire Marshall Megan Leafblad noticed flames rising from the back of the building. After 911-ing the MFD, Leafblad and fellow gawker Katy Gerdes met the fire trucks in the parking lot to supervise the local firefighters.

Lesson learned. Always have a pitcher of water at the table. We would never want to waste good beer on a fire.

Weaselhawks Extinguish Bonfires

This team is OnFire!! The Weaselhawks kicked some serious butt, defeating the Olson Bonfires by at least 10 runs. Thanks to special guest Corky Shindelar for helping out (ouch!! taking a bat to the shin, too). Every one of the Weaselhawks pounded the ball and rounded the bases. Jamie Parker didn't even strike out. (Oh, maybe 'cause he was in Canada and not at the game.)

The 'Hawks celebrated the victory with an outing to Busters for grub. A little fancier than the usual post-game hangout, but comfy enough. And a fine beer list. A few KFAI Cougars joined us for a beer, then everyone went home and watched the 9th through 15th inning of the MLB All Star Game.

After Hours at the Cardinal

Sad-ish game (6-13), but the mood lifted at the after-party at "the Bird" where we put some jamz on the jukebox and—fueled by rice beer and tenderloin—finally cut loose a little.

Game wrap

The Weaselhawks eked out another close defeat: 16-22. After our sub-victory lap through the Cedar Inn, out of nowhere the AC/DC started pumping and Joe "Remi" Shindelar got a little crazy.

More post-game action

We'd been to Psycho Suzy's plenty, so we opted for Craig's mom's bathtub.

This is gonna hurt

Get strapped in, Bolinites, cuz teh Hawks bring the pain—and laugh as you suffer.

In case you missed it

Post-game highlights:

Jesse Ventura - Baby Seal? SEAL? Weaselhawk?

Nice wrap-up on the KFAI Cougars game, Katy. A reminder to all 'Hawks -- there's plenty of room here to add your two cents' worth; bring it. And, kudos again to Katy ... after a couple of weeks of technical snafus, she's totally hitting stride with her new duties as Official Weaselhawks  Photographer. See the magic here:

Didn't we have fun getting slapped around like a bunch of baby seals? Diapers were changed. Bubbles were blown. Runs were scored (sorry, no photograhic proof of that); Jerky was munched. It was a nice Tuesday night out and about in Nordeast.

Boldface mention for the Apple Valley-Lakeville /Milwaukee/Amsterdam long-time fan of the Weaselhawks Matt Nelson for showing up. At the bar. Maybe he'll actually make it to a game while he's scouting talent. And it was a pleasure to see Weaselhawks supporter Jamie McLaughlin ("Weasel-whos?") at Psycho Suzies.

Fashion report: Katherine Lamb is rocking the killer plaid (?Madras? ?Chennai-influence? ?Northshore Vernacular?) hat consistently this year;  bluejeans are back in style; I saw not even one "red heather" shirt on the field. No pinstripes. Mesh is always in style on the diamond. Nice green on white King Korn. Was Holly S. wearing red Crocs? I'll bet Rey was wearing orange Crocs. Maybe someday Billy Cunningham will do a photo essay on the Weaselhawks.

"I'm only Coaching, not playing" Natalie Schaffer again filled in critical gaps with field and plate appearances, ...and, finally ... congrats to Dave and Nancy Stieber on the newest addition to their family: 2029 Weaselhawks recruit  Jordan Eleanore Steiber.

Plenty of baby seals around

After a close scrimmage in April, the KFAI Cougars started their juicing regime and came back to whomp on the poor little Weaselhawks 20-4...

One S. Nassif declared "We should rename the team the Baby Seals since everyone likes clubbing us to death." That same Nassif gave a gallant try playing 3rd base for the first time, as did new player Oona (that's OH-na). Tryouts for permanent 3rd base position will be next week.

While the Weaselhawks weren't so strong in actual game play, they made up for it in actual drinking. Psycho Suzie's was up first with some good old fashion pizza (sausage for J. Nassif please, no black olives or mushrooms for J. Parker), red rockets, pickle roll ups and BEER. Next up was Stasius (spelling anyone?) for some competitive fooseball and more beer. Then a long ride home for J. Parker and rumor has it that C. Phillips and W. Siasoco made it out to Grumpy's for a nightcap.

I think that's it. All I can say is that if the Weaselhawks were half as serious at softball as they were at fooseball, then we might not have to be baby seals anymore. Just a thought...

The best way to find out what happened at Tuesday's game...

...is to actually attend. But for those of us who had babies—or who ARE babies always whining for a recap—here's the scoop: Colle Mcvoy took, like, 12 runs in the second inning and none of the Weaselhawks lucky charms, voodoo hexes or sideline parents could do a thing about it.

Final score: 5 to 117.

Winning is great, but ...

Hey, nice wrap-up, Katy, thanks for contributing. Who's gonna write up next week? Bring your steno pads and pencils to the game, the general public demands fresh content.

Important detail about the 8 pt. prod. game (aside from, who the hell are they?): Where was the post-game gathering? Did the new recruits join in?

Drinking (or at least hanging out after the game -- we always need designated drivers) is just as important as fielding skills in this league.

Tie goes to the runner...

And the tie goes to the runne... er, well, it goes to the Weaselhawks! Not only did we end up with a tie game (9-9), but we were leading up to the end and shut them down for 4 straight innings.

Good showing of Weaselhawks with 2 new recruits (Chris & Micheal) playing and a number of upcoming hawks (season 2025) practicing their swings (Rey's already got his own bat, which is better than most of the hawks).

Votes for game ball go to:
-Jessica for being the big hitter of the girls and for the awesome line drive catch at 3rd.
-Jake Nassif for proving he can hold down the #2 batting spot.
-Witt for a good home run and a kick ass double play... although his crazy base running and high jump skills almost led to our demise. Next time we can just tell the other team that Witt has turrettes and his base running is always entertaining (which is half true).

She can't dance, but she sure can sing

Kind of a weak outing for after-game beverages from the Weaselhawks following the triumphant opener. Five total -- c'mon, we can do better than that. (We did out-number the other team, though).

Although she didn't play (bum knee), and came to the game with a dead battery in her camera, official Weaselhawks photographer Katy Gerdes totally came through at the karaoke mic, contributing a killer version of Jackson that would make A Nassif jealous.

May 13; Weaselhawks v Fischer Edit

A fine debut for the 2008 Weaselhawk squad, in spirit if not in numbers. We were a little short on players, but we managed with the help of our new coach, Natalia Schaefer. Yes, that's Natalie "Sure, I'll coach as long as you promise I'll never have to play" Schaefer. She played. And she shone brightly. For that she has earned the game ball. Also much props to the other Weaselhawk newbie, April. Another damn fine debut.

While we needed Natalie to get to the required minimum of players, we were still better off than Fischer Edit. They didn't have enough, so we technically won by forfeit. But don't let that technically fool you. We swooped ass, 13-0. In your face, editors of Fisch!

The other game ball goes to Craig Phillips for throwing more strikouts than I've seen since the end of the steroid era of softball. Mainly he gets the award for his sliding effort and Three Stoogian baserunning.

>>thanks for the wrap, JP. But I'm calling my own play of the game for K.Lamm with the unassisted double play at third. KAH^2! -Jake

READY TO FLY

Here we go again. The 2008 Ad Agency Softball League (AASL) season gets underway Tuesday, May 13, with the Weaselhawks facing Fischer Edit at 7:15 at NE Athletic Field, 14th and Fillmore in beautiful Nordeast Minneapolis.
